Height of The Antenna
The antennas are fiberglass rods at opposite ends of the volleyball net. They are part of the net. The purpose of the antennas is to give visual help to referees and players to understand whether the ball is in play or out of bounds when it passes over the net. If the ball flies over the antenna, the ball is out of bounds. Hence, the antenna decides the limits of the crossing space.
Each antenna extends vertically at each outer part of the side band. It is a long and flexible rod of 5.9 ft or 1.8 m. The diameter of each antenna is 0.4 inches or 10 mm.
In addition, the tip of the antenna reaches about 2.6 ft or 80cm height above the top of the net from the edges. Also, there are extensions marked on the antenna with contrasting color stripes of 10 cm.
How to Measure Volleyball Net Height
With the right tools and equipment, you can easily measure the volleyball net height by following these instructions:
- First, carefully clip the measuring tool on the top of the volleyball net in a way that it is hanging towards the floor.
- Make sure that the chain of the tool is not swinging in any direction.
- Next, make sure to measure each side of the net at the boundaries. The boundaries are the point with antennas. Also, check if the height is very close enough to the length of the chain. Thus, the bottom of the chain must barely touch the floor.
- In addition, the center of the volleyball net can be lower than the boundaries. However, always ensure that the difference between the center net height and the height of the net at boundaries must not exceed more than ¾ inches.
- While measuring the net height, always ensure that the two ends of the volleyball net must be of the same height as the playing surface.
- Also, make sure that the volleyball net height is not exceeding the official height by more than ¾ inches.
- While measuring your volleyball net outside, always make sure the ground below the net is leveled or balanced. For instance, in the case of beach volleyball, the sand on the ground must be raked enough. So that you can achieve the correct net height.
- Your volleyball net is now ready for you to show your volleyball skills.

Whether you’re a volleyball coach, or Olympic, NCAA, or youth player. Whether you are on an indoor volleyball team or an outdoor volleyball team, always make sure to follow these guidelines to achieve the ideal net height for volleyball.
